MyVillage describes Blackfriars as a cafe bar, what we found was a very expensive restaurant trying to be high end but failing to deliver in all areas. A great building does not justify main courses c£18 which would sit better in a mid range pub.

Blakes is in a beautiful location but has gone downhill recently cleanliness is questionable and the sandwiches seem to be bland
This cafe is a Jesmond residents favourite and is always full of young couples and groups for good reason. I went into Intermezzo about a year ago and found the staff incredibly rude. A few months back I went in as a last resort and was utterly shocked. They couldn't be nicer. Truly Newcastle''s best coffee with fantastic cocktails.
At last great coffee served with a smile and where the staff really care about the customers - food made fresh in front of you and gourmet soup to die for this place has to be on your top 10 things to do before you die bucket list!!!"!
